Here are photos from May 11th of the Lytton First Nation (Tl’kemchEEn First Nation) Cultural Center, currently under construction. The timbers for this project were supplied by the Skeetchestn First Nation near Kamloops. The raked cylindrical roof form is inspired by the traditional “Pit House” used by the Nla’kapamux First Nations of the Fraser Canyon watershed. This cultural center is one of the first buildings being reconstructed in Lytton after the 2021 wildfire that devastated the town. To ensure its resilience against future forest fires, the building will be clad in 4-inch thick fireproof "Kiln Block," made from autoclaved air-entrained concrete.
